Focus & Principles

The Canadian Field Print Initiative is focused on the development of market-driven, science and outcomes-based metrics and tools measuring the environmental performance of Canadian crop production.

This approach focuses on results, rather than practices and processes, and is supported throughout the agri-food value chain.

The work of the CFPI is guided by a set of principles where the measurement of Canadian on-farm sustainability metrics must be:

Objective Field-tested Technology-neutral
Non-proprietary Accessible Farmer-friendly
Science-based Scalable Market-driven
Collaborative Open-course Focused on motivating and demonstrating improvements

The following organizations are participants of the Canadian Field Print Initiative who have contributed to its projects:

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has also been very instrumental in assisting the CFPI with financial support and by allowing the use of several key algorithms in the Canadian Field Print Calculator. AAFC staff have also been instrumental in facilitating the technical review of the calculator.
